ASN HISTORY : 

The Association of Surgeons, Nagpur was formed by Prof. R. Nigam Prof. & head Dept. of Surgery GMC, Nagpur in 1957 and he managed the ASI till he was GMC in Nagpur

In 1964, Dr. V.D. Choudhary Surgeon from Gandhibagh, Nagpur initiation and revived the association with support Dr. Tamaskar, Dr. Joshi SB, Dr. Natrajan Iyer, Dr. P.H. Soni, Dr. M.L. Gandhe, Dr. V.B. Deshmukh. Dr. Tamaskar as president, Dr. Choudhary as secretary & Dr. Sitaram Agrawal as treasurer and our all activities were hold at Surgery lecture hall GMC, Nagpur then subsequent office bearer were changed accordingly.

In 1981, we decided to hold the 4th Maharashtra state surgeons conference in 1982 from 27th to 29th August 82. Dr. Tamaskar as Chairman, Dr. V.B. Choudhary as organizing secretary and Dr. Sitaram Agrawal Join treasurer. It was held at Auditorium GMC, Nagpur. Dr.R.N. Methi, Dr. Saxena, Dr.K.B. Golhar, Dr. K.K. Trivedi, Dr. Katakwar played active role and conference was successful.

In 1983 Dr. V.B. Deshmukh was appointed as president, & ASI was received in 1992 by Dr.V.B. Deshmukh.

Nagpur has produced many great surgeons. Although ASI Nagpur chapter was revived in 1993 with Dr. V. B. Deshmukh as president and Dr. (Mrs.) Varsha Saggdeo as secretary, the surgeons of yesteryears had come together for organizing big events like MASICON. It was in 1982 that the MASICON was organized for the first time at Nagpur under the leadership of Prof. M. L. Gandhe and Dr. V. D. Choudhary

The association has grown over last two decades with a membership of over 250. The successful organization of Silver Jubilee MASICON in 2003 with Dr. S. Dasgupta as organizing Chairman and Dr. S. P. Matkari as the organizing secretary was the high point in the graph of the association.

The association organizes academic activities for updating the members. It also organizes diagnostic and operative camps at villages and for the poor sections of the society. Cultural programs are held for the members and their families. Late Dr. Inderjit Mitra Memorial State level Surgical Quiz is a unique event and was the first of its kind to be conducted for undergraduates and internees, who come from medical colleges from all over Maharashtra.

ASN received the Certificate of Merit from MASICON 2019 Aurangabad for best activity (academic) for the year 2018-19. Congratulations to all the Committee Members.
